Allegheny County Doggos By the Numbers -- 2020 Addition
Allegheny County (sans Pittsburgh) publishes information on dog registrations.
I previously published some states about these dogs in 2018. I also published the code for getting this data and a search tool, although see the caveats at the end.
This year, I used this project as an excuse to mentor a new open source conributor through the contribution process as part of Digital Ocean’s Hacktoberfest.
Here’s the updated data for 2020:

Gender Breakdown for Dogs in Allegheny County
Pittsburgh has 20,882 female registered dogs, 18,959 male regisered dogs, and 7,342 dogs whose registration data doesn’t provide any gender information.
Percent of Dogs Neutered/Spayed
39841 out of 47183 doggos are spayed or neutered. That’s about 84% of registered dogs.
Cutest Dogs in Pittsburgh
According to my extenstive data analysis using Deep Learning AI magic sauce, the cutest male dog in Pittsburgh is this one:

Caveats
Two caveats:
- Apparently Pittsburgh itself is excluded from this data.
- I spent about one beer on this project. There’s a really good chance I double-counted everything and made other silly errors.
